Hip Hop's New Secret

The world of Hip Hop is VAST. The art form has managed to continuously expand its audience and its influence on popular music. Let me spin that another way.... Hip Hop Music is Pop Music. Yeah... I said it. AND... just like all other music forms that derived from the African-American experience, Hip Hop is seeing an onslaught of other cultures "adopting" it. This video shows the growing sub-culture of Hip Hop rhyme battles. Notice that NONE of them are of African-American descent.

News Worthy? Travolta's Family Pets Killed at Airport

Sometimes I really have to wonder WHY certain things are considered news worthy. Today, a report from the Bangor Daily News poped up on the scene to report some sad news about John Travolta and his family.

Apparently the actor and his family had two dogs that were accidentally hit and killed on the tarmac by an employee at Bangor International Airport last early last Thursday morning 5/13/2010. The incident was considered important enough that  Bangor's Interim City Manager Bob Farrar sent out notification to the nine city councilors to confirm the accident. The two small dogs were taken for a walk by a non-family member when an airport service pickup truck struck them by accident.

Now... don't get me wrong. I know that pets can be an extended part of a family and that it is a tragedy to them. But is it news worthy?  Not in my humble opinion!

Michael Jackson look-alike Throws First Pitch

OK... who thought it was a good idea to have a Michael Jackson look-alike throw out the first pitch of a baseball game? I mean... was MJ a huge baseball fan? Did he epitomize the state of Florida or the Florida Marlins franchise? Well, if you as me, it looked awkward as hell. Jacko could dance, but he wasn't super athletic or anything and to see a look-alike on the mound in full MJ gear was just STRANGE!!! Well, apparently, the Florida Marlins marketing team thought different when the decided to have Michael Firestone, the Michael Jackson look-alike, throw out the first pitch during the May 15th baseball game between versus the New York Mets.

Facebook is Catchin' a Beatdown Over Their Privacy Settings

Have you heard all of the chitter~chatter about Facebook and their privacy settings issues. That's scary to think that they have so much information about so many people on their servers and they keep playing around with it. That's insane. It's only gonna drive more and more people to Twitter or maybe even back to MySpace {{{YIKES}}}.

The Celtics Defeat LeBron and the Cavs; Head to Eastern Conference Finals

There really isn't much to say about this. The Boston Celtics handle their business and eliminate the Cleveland Cavaliers from the NBA Playoffs. Despite being amazed that Boston was able to find the fountain of youth, what stands out the most is that The King, LeBron James really didn't make much of an impact in the last two games. It almost looked like he was throwing the game. It is unfortunate for his legacy and no claims of injury will ever excuse the lack of trying. I mean seriously... when let Tony Allen freak the rim on you in Game 6, you really need to reflect on how bad you really wanted to win in the first place!

State of Hip Hop - Latin Lingo

I'm sure many people have varied opinions on the current state of Pop Music. Well... Hip-Hop is currently mainstream and is, in essence Pop Music, right? I'm not talking about the various segments of Underground Hip-Hop. I'm talking about the crossover stuff. Rap music is on almost every radio station around the world. Love it or hate it, you've probably heard it. The Latin Lingo article from the  San Antonio Current gives Cypress Hill's view of the current State of Hip-Hop. I guess the rap veterans have a claim to parts of rap history. They were a major part of bringing Latin Hip-Hop to the forefront of the genre when they released their self-titled debut album in 1991. Perhaps that is why they are still able to book gigs. Those fools are performing at Scout Bar in San Antonio this Saturday, May 15, 2010. Cypress Hill is the EXACT type of group you want to see in a small venue. Their energy and style will be a breath of fresh air to a new generation of Hip-Hop fans.
